Paros, the third largest island in the Cyclades is located west of Naxos and south
of Mykonos. Since antiquity the island has been known for its white marble which was used for several famous statues including Medici Venus. Paros is the hub of the Cycladic ferry system and is busy in high season. In July and August the strong winds make the island a windsurfer’s paradise. Paros is popular for its lower prices, golden beaches, and charming fishing villages. It lacks the sophistication of Mykonos or Santorini and has less top-class hotels but it is still a traveler’s paradise.

The lovely port town of Parikia, the capital, is where the ferries dock. Located here are a vibrant marketplace, the remains of a Venetian castle, and a fine Byzantine church which is one of the three largest and oldest churches in the Greek islands. Naoussa, a charming port town on the north coast, is surrounded by villas, hotels, and the most popular beaches on the island. Both towns attract most of the visitors and have an active nightlife. However, there is much of the island where you can find peace and quiet and get away from the hustle and bustle.
